How Nutrients Increase Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant

Can Vitamin C with Rosehips lead to early miscarriage? – Dr. Sangeeta Gomes

Eating certain foods and avoiding others has been medically proven to improve the ovulatory function of a woman and increase her chances of becoming pregnant. Of course, its not all about diet. There are other factors that can lower your chances of getting pregnant. Being overweight or underweight can lead to menstruation disorders, which can cause a woman to stop ovulating.

Below are some things to be aware of when thinking about diet and nutritional or vitamin supplements as you try for a baby.

Having Both Low Folate And Vitamin B6 Increases The Risk Of Miscarriage Fourfold

Homocysteine, folate, and vitamins B6 and B12 concentrations were measured in plasma obtained before conception. Mean vitamin B6 concentration was lower in patients than in controls . In addition, the risk of miscarriage tended to increase with decreasing plasma vitamin B6 and folate concentration, although the signicance of these trends was further reduced in logistic models that included age, body mass index, and both vitamins. The risk of miscarriage was fourfold, higher among women with suboptimal plasma concentrations of both folate and vitamin B6 than in those with higher plasma concentrations of both vitamins . Homocysteine and vitamin B12 status were not associated with miscarriage risk.

Biotin: Biotin deciency is associated with insulin resistance, which is common in recurrent miscarriage.

Calcium: High blood levels are associated with increased risk of miscarriage.

Choline: Low choline levels reduce embryonic growth and cardiac development. Choline has also been shown to prevent birth defects.

Chromium: May improve insulin sensitivity in women with PCOS, although chromium picolinate has been shown to cause birth defects at high levels.

Folic acid: Low folate is associated with a 47% increased risk of miscarriage having both low folate and low vitamin B6 increase miscarriage risk by 310%. Folic acid may also reduce the risk for Down Syndrome.

Multivitamins: lowered the risk of miscarriage by 57% in one study.

Phosphorus: low in women who miscarry.

Can Vitamin C Prevent Pregnancy

Some studies stated that more than the recommended levels of vitamin C could interfere with the progesterone secreted from the corpus luteum. Since progesterone prepares the endometrium for implantation and sustains the pregnancy, reduced pregnancy hormone levels may help prevent pregnancy /Text/07%3A_Vitamins/7.3%3A_Water_Soluble_Vitamins/7.3I%3A_Vitamin_C_” rel=”nofollow”> 2).

Vitamin C intake as an alternative to birth control pills has been discussed, but there is not evidence to prove its efficacy. Hence you should consult with your OB-GYN about effective contraceptive methods.

How Can Vitamin C Prevent Pregnancy

Vitamin C contains ascorbic acid. This acid represses the release of progesterone hormones. This hormone is essential for preparing your uterus for conception. If your body does not release sufficient progesterone hormone, the uterus will not be prepared for conception. Progesterone nourishes a bed for the fertilized egg. Lack of this hormone will prevent the implantation of the egg in the uterus. The acidity of Vitamin C prevents your chance of conception in this way.

Foods And Beverages To Avoid During Pregnancy

Best Natural Abortion Vitamin C

What do you expect your grocery list to look like when youre expecting?

You definitely want it to include items within all of the main food groups for your babys growth and development, shares Tanuja Rajpal, M.D., MSA, a board certified OB/GYN. After all, the baby depends on the mom.

As you browse down the aisles and load up your cart with lean meats, vegetables, fruits, dairy and grains, Dr. Rajpal recommends that women look for foods high in:

  • Calcium such as almonds, kale and cabbage
  • Folic acid such as spinach, beans and citrus fruits
  • Iron such as tofu, lentils and quinoa
  • Vitamin C such as kiwis, mangos and papayas

Eating a balanced diet is essential during pregnancy, says Dr. Rajpal, but there are certain foods that women should avoid altogether, as they can be detrimental to both you and the babys health. She warns moms-to-be about the potential health risks associated with the following foods and beverages during all three trimesters:

  • Alcohol. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that no known amount of alcohol is safe while trying to get pregnant, during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Its a big no, says Dr. Rajpal. Consumption can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth and the development of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, or lifelong physical, behavioral or mental disabilities.

    Other Ways To Induce Abortion

The abortion method will depend on how far the pregnancy has progressed. Usually after 9 weeks of pregnancy, the only viable option available is a surgical abortion. It is also important to realize the health risks of abortion are higher in the second trimester compared to the first trimester. The earlier on the pregnancy you are in, the better your options and the lower the related risks. The decision to have an abortion is very personal and you may require some professional help dealing with this difficult decision.

Below are several ways of abortion. If you find yourself with an unwanted pregnancy, seek medical attention as soon as possible, no matter which method you choose.

    1. Home Remedies

Similar to vitamin C for abortion, there is no scientific research to back up the following natural remedies. So take extra care and see your doctor for advice before taking them.

Dong Quai is a plant of which the root is used to make an herbal medicine. It is commonly used to relieve menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms and premenstrual tension. It is believed to work by interfering with normal estrogen levels in the body.

Pennyroyal contains an abortifacient substance called pulegone. This agent causes moderate to severe contractions, causing abortion.

Cinnamon is used as an agent of abortion because it is believed by some that it causes uterine stimulation at the correct dose. It can also reduce the pain of an abortion.

Self-Managed Abortion: How Does an Abortion with Pills Work? | Episode 3

A new report from the Guttmacher Institute providing data for 2017 found that 18 percent of nonhospital facilities reported having seen at least one patient who had attempted to end a pregnancy on her own, an increase from 12 percent in 2014 . The biggest reason? The only drugs approved by the FDA to be used in a medication abortion are becoming increasingly available online, as are resources about how to safely and effectively self-manage an abortion outside of a clinical setting.

According to research by the Guttmacher Institute, during a month-long period in May and June 2017, individuals in the United States conducted more than 200,000 Google searches for information related to self-abortion. Another piece of data comes from Aid Access, an online telemedicine service based in Europe, which reported that 21,000 U.S. residents requested mifepristone and misoprostol from them in their first year of operation.

“Taken together, all of this evidence suggests that self-managed abortion may be on the rise in the U.S.,” says Daniel Grossman, an OB-GYN and reproductive health researcher at the University of California, San Francisco.

Increased access to safe methods for ending an unwanted pregnancy in itself is not a cause for concern. However, attempting a self-induced abortion outside of clinical care and FDA-approved medication can put women at risk not only health-wise but also legally. Here are the facts.

Vitamin C is also known to initiate menstrual bleeding. Typically menstruation cycle occurs every 28 days in most women. Vitamin C can start your menstruation earlier than expected. A high dose of Vitamin C can decrease the amount of progesterone and increase the amount of estrogen hormone in your body. Reduction in progesterone level relaxes the uterus and induces menstruation. Also, increase in estrogen can make your uterus contract and affect your pregnancy.

In hopes of joining the SBM movement as medical students, we wanted to take aim at a topic that has yet been finely dissected a la Novella or logorrheicly dismembered a la Gorski. Having realized that a fellow medical student, Tim Kreider, is already addressing integrative medicine on campus, we decided that we would attempt to find a controversial topic that has yet to be addressed on SBM. A serendipitous question from a friend sent us on a mission to explore the pseudo-scientific underbelly of the web and science-based rationale of the claim that vitamin C can induce abortion.

So the evidence cited here is from an article the author could not find, in a language she could not understand, translated by some unknown woman in Slovakia, with a sample size of 20, no known dosages or methods of administration, and even an admission that there was no documentation that all 20 women were even pregnant. Already riddled with biases, flaws, and fallacies, the author continues:

A 2019 study published in the journal Contraception of 650 abortion providers found that two-thirds of respondents had experiences with women attempting to self-manage abortion, and about one-third witnessed complications related to self-managed medication abortion.

“People report a variety of methods, including vitamins, herbs, medications, and physical methods like getting hit in the abdomen,” says Dr. Grossman.

While some methods are obviously alarming and unsafe, others have become increasingly common due to the belief that they are a “natural” solution. A 2011 study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology found that 1.4 percent of 9,493 women surveyed, reported using vitamin C or herbal products to attempt to end a pregnancy. But there is no scientific or clinical evidence these methods work. Here’s what you need to know:

    Why Are More Women Self

There are a plethora of reasons why women may seek to end a pregnancy on their own.

“In our research, people report a variety of reasons for attempting to self-manage their abortion. Many people say they did this because of barriers accessing clinic-based abortion care. Some of those barriers include the cost of care, distance to clinics, not knowing where a clinic was, and for adolescents a concern that parental consent was required,” says Dr. Grossman. “Another group of people express a preference for self-managed careâbecause they see it as more natural or less invasive. Some say they use herbs or supplements to manage all their healthcare, and they see self-managed abortion as a natural extension of that.”

Another cause is decreased access to abortion clinics. In 2017, 808 clinic facilities provided abortions, a two percent increase from 2014. However, regional and state disparities in clinic availability grew more pronounced the number of clinics increased in the Northeast and the West, by 16 percent and four percent respectively, and decreased in the Midwest and the South, by six percent and nine percent, respectively.

There are no studies or statistics supporting this claim that vitamin C is successful at aborting an unwanted fetus. Even supporters of this method of abortion admit that it is only successful in only 3-4 women out of every 10 women that attempt it. Another caveat is that it can be used only up to the 4th week of pregnancy. Some women claim that the expulsion of the fetus is incomplete, which forces you to seek medical attention to have the remaining tissue removed safely.

Side Effects of Using Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin which gets flushed away by the kidneys into the urine if your intake exceeds the normal requirements. The levels of vitamin C that are believed to induce an abortion are very high . These high doses can cause many side effects in the body due to its toxicity at high doses, such as:

    • Hot flashes, skin rashes, and headaches

If you have any one of the following underlying medical conditions, strictly avoid vitamin C for abortion:

    • Kidney problems like: kidney stones and other kidney diseases
    • Sickle-cell anemia
    • Taking any anti-coagulants, like Warfarin

Are There Any Known Side Effects To Taking High Doses Of Vitamin C

Some people make the mistake of thinking because something is natural that it is automatically safe and has little or no side effects. Anytime there is more vitamin C in your body than it can use, it will flush out the excess through the kidneys.

The method of taking vitamin C to induce an abortion requires taking extremely high amounts of this vitamin. The recipe for vitamin C abortion often recommends consumption of up to 10 grams each day for up to 10 days.

Vitamin C is toxic at that level and is not recommended. This amount of vitamin C for this period of time can lead to constipation and cramping of the abdominal area.

It can also cause diarrhea and lead to kidney stones. It may cause nausea and insomnia. Some people will feel faint and fatigued and they may find that they have an upset stomach after eating. These are health problems you dont want to have when youre pregnant.
