These drinks should never be consumed while youre on the ketogenic diet. Each one is so unhealthy and filled with so much sugar that your health will improve when you cut them out of your diet. If you do consume them, however, make sure that the serving you are having fits into your calorie, carb, and net carb goals for the day.

Lets start with the basics. What macronutrients do we require for the keto diet to become optimal?

Firstly, we need to make sure 70% of our energy comes from fats, 25% from protein, and 5% from carb. However, this is a concentrated solution that commonly lacks fats and proteins. So what about the carb content?

Well, water enhancers typically contain little to no carbs, as the majority of their sweetness comes from various artificial sweeteners. This means that there are no net carbs per serving in a lot of the water enhancers, and in turn, no calories.

The nutritional value of vitamin water zero per 100 ml is

  • Carbs: 0.8 grams.
  • Sugar: 0 grams.
  • Calories: 5 cal

As you can see, vitamin water zero contains no protein, no fat, and is very low in carbohydrates with only 0.8 grams per 100ml.

Also, vitamin water zero is rich in nutrients and very low in calories, being low in calories is not necessarily good for the keto diet, but in this instance, it does not go against the drink.

There are many different flavors of Vitamin Water Zero, all of which have different vitamins and minerals for different occasions. They can make a great pre and post-workout drink, especially if you are looking to replace electrolytes.

Popular Drinks That Should Be Consumed In Moderation On The Ketogenic Diet

The following list of drinks are on the fine line between keto-friendly and avoid entirely:

  • Coconut water 45 calories, 11 grams of total carbs, and 11 grams of net carbs per cup
  • Milk 148 calories, 12 grams of total carbs, and 12 grams of net carbs per cup of whole milk
  • Kombucha 30 calories, 7 grams of total carbs, and 7 grams of net carbs per cup of GTs Organic Raw Kombucha
  • Vegetable Juice 49 calories, 10 grams of carbs, and 8 grams of net carbs per cup of V8 100% Vegetable Juice

Each one of these drinks is beneficial to our health in various ways, but their net carb content requires you to maintain a watchful eye on how much you are consuming. In most cases, there is a better alternative that is more keto friendly. Consuming 1/3 of your daily carbs in 1 serving is not the best choice when it comes to your diet. Its best to save those carbs for leafy green vegetables.

For this reason, we recommend shying away from these types of beverages where possible. Although these beverages have some health benefits, it is not necessary to consume them while you are on the ketogenic diet.

Note: Its virtually impossible to cover all of the drinks that are moderately allowed on keto. Try to be careful and read nutrition labels. If it has sugar, you generally want to avoid it. If it doesnt have sugar, check the nutrition information. Generally, if a drink has more than 8g of carbs per serving, you should consider avoiding it.

Is Propel Bad For You

There is nothing in propel water that has any scientific evidence to support it would be harmful.

However, there is a small study that suggests Sucralose the main sweetener MAY elevate blood sugar and insulin levels slightly. 1

It seems as if specific individuals who dont regularly consume artificial sweeteners had more of an adverse effect. Although, Ive yet to see this happen in the real world.

There are numerous other studies showing that Sucralose had no effect at all on blood glucose or insulin.234

Artificial sweetener is often a highly debated topic, but the Food and Drug Administration considers Sucralose safe for human consumption.

If Sucralose is something youre trying to avoid, you may want to stick to propel vitamin water, which is sweetened with stevia.
