This Blueberry Orange water infusion with hints of rosemary manages to be both richly flavoured and oh-so-refreshing and it requires minimal effort. Just remember that your blueberries must be at their ripest best, and you can use either blood, cara cara, jaffa or navel oranges to create this Summer water infusion. It the absolute thirst quencher!

I adore water and drink plenty of it, but sometimes, it’s nice to spruce it up with seasonal variations.

Have you tried infused water recipes? Well, if you haven’t dabbled as yet and want to go beyond simple, humble water, then there’s no better time than now to give this easy and healthy recipe a try.

On Summer days, I love to create a giant batch and place it in the fridge for the kids to enjoy and for me to triumph that we are all drinking more water. It contains no added sugar, and of course, like most of my recipes, it relies on nature’s candy to bring delicious flavour.

This refreshing orange water hits the spot every single time. And one you may want to consider as a means to elevate your Summer. Besides those regular days, it’s also the perfect easy summer drink for barbecues and cookouts. I must say, it’s one of the best infused water recipes I’ve tried.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy Safe

Being an essentially natural and gentle process, there is virtually no danger with a colonic treatment. The treatment is always accompanied by a trained specialist. There may be initial discomfort due to the pressure and occasional cramping of the intestinal muscles, but this all is kept to a minimum and will reside once you get used to the process. Many patients report about a very pleasant experience after an initial adjustment phase.

What’s The Bottom Line

For most of us, the quantities of vitamins and minerals needed for good health can be obtained by eating a healthy diet with a wide range of foods and food groups. Obtaining vitamins and minerals from your diet is much easier, cheaper, and safer.

Unless you have a medically diagnosed reason for getting a vitamin infusion and it was prescribed by your doctor, you are always better off obtaining vitamins and minerals through food.

Measurement Of Thiobarbituric Acid

DIY intravenous vitamin C

Measurement of TBARS in human blood plasma was carried out as recently described . Briefly, tubes containing 200l plasma samples and 10l 0.2mol/l BHT were vortexed, immediately frozen and stored at 70°C until further analysis. After thawing 25l 0.11mol/l 2-thiobarbituric acid, the reagent was added, vortexed, incubated at 90°C and then cooled to 4°C. TBARS were extracted with 500l butanol and 50l saturated NaCl solution was added. The tubes were microcentrifuged in an Eppendorf centrifuge and 250l of the upper butanol phase was measured by UV in a 96-well multititer plate. TBARS concentrations were calculated using the difference in absorption at two wavelengths . Of note: TBARS analysis was not influenced by vitamin C in concentrations as high as 2000M.

Q2 Is Iv The Optimal Route For Vitamin C Administration

Much of the controversy around vitamin C use in cancer therapy has arisen from early misunderstandings around the pharmacokinetics of oral and IVC. In the mid 1970s Cameron and Pauling published findings from 100 terminal cancer patients who had been administered 10 g/d IVC for approximately 10 days, followed by 10 g/d oral vitamin C thereafter. Their work showed significantly enhanced survival in these patients compared with two retrospective cohorts of 1,000 patients who did not receive vitamin C. Subsequently, researchers at the Mayo Clinic attempted to reproduce these results with two randomized controlled trials carried out in 123 patients with advanced malignancies and 100 patients with advanced colorectal cancer . Neither study showed a significant survival advantage in the patients who received vitamin C.

Does Iv Vitamin Therapy Work

IV therapy itself is not new and has been used in the medical profession for decades. In hospitals, it is commonly used to hydrate patients and administer essential nutrients if there is an issue with gut absorption, or long-term difficulty eating or drinking due to surgery.

Single nutrient deficiencies like vitamin B12 or iron are also often treated in hospital with infusions under medical supervision.

But the “cocktails” IV vitamin therapy clinics create and administer are not supported by scientific evidence. There have been no clinical studies to show vitamin injections of this type offer any health benefit or are necessary for good health.

In fact, there are very few studies that have looked at their effectiveness at all.

There is one review on the use of the “Myers’ cocktail” . But it just contains a collection of anecdotal evidence from singular case studies.

Another trial looked into the effectiveness of IV vitamin therapy in reducing symptoms of 34 people with the the chronic pain condition fibromyalgia. It found no significant differences between those who received the “Myers’ cocktail” once a week for eight weeks and those who did not.

In fact, the authors noted a strong placebo effect. In other words, many people said their symptoms improved when they were only injected with a “dummy” cocktail.

Everything You Need To Know About Vitamin Infusion Therapy

You might have heard of vitamin infusion therapy its all the rage with celebrities such as Rihanna, Rita Ora and Madonna. It has hit the headlines as the new wellness trend, designed to provide a range of health benefits including anti-aging, allergy relief, weight loss and even relief from serious illnesses such as cancer. But what is it, and how does it work?

After Vitamin C Infusion

Patients can feel tired, mild headaches, or dizziness after undergoing a vitamin C infusion, especially patients undergoing high doses of vitamin C. However, this condition can be avoided by consuming lots of fluids and food before and after undergoing an IV. The patient is also at risk of having a small bruise at the injection site, but will usually go away on its own within a week.

After the doctor makes observations and ensures the patients condition is stable, the patient will be allowed to go home and carry out normal activities. The effects of vitamin C treatment through an IV are generally only felt 2-3 days after the treatment procedure.

To prevent vitamin C deficiency and maintain a healthy body, there are several things you can do, including:

  • Increase consumption of vegetables and fruits with high vitamin C levels.
  • Stop smoking because cigarettes can inhibit the absorption of vitamin C into the body.
  • Limit consumption of alcoholic drinks.
  • Exercise regularly.

    Why C Is Essential

    IV Vitamin C Infusions

    Keeping Us Together

All animals need vitamin C because its key to our bodys ability to produce collagen, and this might be vitamin Cs most important and far-reaching benefit. Collagen is the most abundant fiber tissue in our body, connecting everything in our blood vessels, skin, organs, teeth, bones, and more. Because vitamin C is so important in this role, our bodies quite literally start to fall apart when we are chronically deprived of it.

Before humans understood the value of this nutrient, vitamin C deficiency was called scurvy, and it was a disease common among sailors and explorers deprived of fresh food for long periods. It was a dreaded and painful malady that fortunately is very rare today.

    Other Key Functions

Vitamin C also protects other key vitamins from oxidation, allowing us to get the full benefit from them. Vitamin C is crucial for our immune system to operate properly. Vitamin C helps our body process iron so we dont experience iron-deficiency anemia. And what amounts of vitamin C our bodies do store functions to protect us from the effects of the stress hormone cortisol, which is why chronic stress depletes us of this nutrient.

While the modern diet almost always provides enough vitamin C to avoid scurvy, it doesnt provide enough during times of high stress for our immune system to function optimally or to battle fatigue and adrenal exhaustion.

    Vitamin C Iv Side Effects

There are many studies since 1970 discussing the benefits of vitamin c. Some are positive and some do not show benefit of supplementation. The most common unwanted symptoms are diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal cramping.

A more recent study published in Journal of the American Medical Association described IV vitamin C reducing mortality in septic patients from 46% to 30%. These patients have a desperate condition and high dose vitamin C helps in many ways.

Some studies of IV high dose vitamin C in patients with cancer have shown they enjoyed a higher quality of life and fewer side effects from their other treatments.

    How Does Vitamin C Work

Vitamin C plays a versatile role in our body. It is involved in the following processes:

    Collagen Production

Vitamin C is required for collagen production along with the amino acids proline and lysine. Risk of sports injuries like ruptured ligaments and tendons may increase with vitamin C deficiency. With healthy collagen production skin and connective tissue can be bolstered.

    Energy Production

Fat is used by the mitochondria to produce energy. For this process Vitamin C is required. More specifically, Vitamin C takes part in the production of carnitine which acts as a shuttle for fats into the mitochondria. To put it simple: The more Vitamin C, the more carnitine our body has available to transport fuel into our cells to produce energy.

    Immune Support

Administered intravenously at high doses Vitamin C can generate hydrogen peroxide which has an antimicrobial, anti-viral and anticancer effect.

    Antioxidant Properties

Vitamin C has shown to be a potent antioxidant that can help to protect cell structures like collagen, proteins, and DNA from damage by free radicals and reactive oxygen species which are common in high stress states, chronic illness and infections.

Effect Of High Dose Intravenous Vitamin C On Secondary Outcomes

As Table 2 shows, SIRS occurrence at Day 0 was similar between the two groups . On Day 7, there were fewer patients with SIRS in the HDIVC group than the control group . Among the patients with SIRS on admission, the duration of SIRS was further analyzed, and we found that patients who accepted the HDIVC protocol experienced a significantly shorter lasting time of SIRS than the ones who did not . There was no significant difference in the serum levels of CRP between the HDIVC group and the control group on Day 0 and Day 3. However, on Day 7, CRP levels were significantly lower in the HDIVC group than in the control group . Another inflammatory indicator, ESR, showed no significant difference between the two groups.

TABLE 2. Effect of HDIVC on inflammatory response.

As Table 3 shows, for the patients with CD4+ T lymphocyte deficiency on admission, HDIVC exerted a significant improving effect , but not for the patients with deficiencies in CD8+ and lymphocytes on admission. There was no obvious effect of HDIVC on the CD4+ T cell counts, CD8+ T cell counts, and lymphocytes counts on Day 3 and Day 7 for the entire study population .

TABLE 3. Effect of HDIVC on the recovery of immune function deficiency.

TABLE 4. Effect of HDIVC on organ functions.

No significant difference in the time to achieve negative viral load of nasopharyngeal swab and stool was observed between the HDIVC group and the control group.

Does Iv Vitamin C Improve The Quality Of Life In Cancer Patients

In the systematic reviews by Jacobs and others and Fritz and others , these groups explored the effects of IV vitamin C on quality of life . All together they found, there is weak evidence that IV vitamin C may improve cancer-related quality of lifeand symptom severity, or reduce the toxicity of chemotherapy.

Non-randomized studies assessing oral and vitamin C infusion on cancer and chemotherapy-related quality of life using validated questionnaires found patients reported decreases in common symptoms such as fatigue, pain, nausea/vomiting, insomnia, and appetite loss, following administration of IV vitamin C .

They also found improvements in reported overall health, and enhanced physical, emotional, cognitive, and social functioning. In contrast, another clinical trial found no significant benefit of IV vitamin C to quality of life .

One retrospective cohort study found that breast cancer patients treated with IV vitamin C in addition to standard therapy had a statistically and clinically significant reduction in chemotherapy-related side effects compared to patients treated with standard therapy alone .

As well, a randomized trial of ovarian cancer patients found reductions in chemotherapy-related toxicities .
